Research

Research interests:

My research revolves mainly around strategic IP management. In this broader field, I work on the topics of patent valuation and whitespace identification. My research methods of preference are using NLP and interpretable ML algorithms further to improve the usage of these methods within this field.

Opening up the patent valuation black-box

Patent value estimations require increasingly complex ML methods which often lack the necessary explanatory power to disentangle the effects of different elements. This paper correlates organizational patent-portfolios with technology valuations by using interpretable machine learning.

Competitor Portfolios and the value of new technologies

In interconnected innovation ecosystems, a technology's value depends not only on its own merits but on where it sits relative to competitors. This paper uses text-based similarity measures to link a patent's proximity to rival portfolios, in both product space and technology space, to its market-based value.
